Show Full Menus in Office

By default, when you click on a menu (menu bar) in a Windows Office application, you won’t see the entire listing on the menus contents. Instead, you have to wait a few seconds for the entire list of the contents to display itself completely. Or you could further put yourself through the additional annoyance of clicking on the double-chevrons at the bottom on the context menu to force the menu to display itself in its entirety. If you find this as annoying as I do, here’s how to change the default menu settings to display the entire contents of a menu.

From within an open application of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.):

  1. Click on Tools (menu).
  2. Select “Customize” (from the context menu).
  3. In the Customize dialog box, click on the Options tab (if not already selected).
  4. Under the “Personalized Menus and Toolbars” section, you’ll see a checkmark next to “Show full menus after a short delay.”Click in the check box to the left of “Always show full menus.”
  5. Click in the check box to the left of “Always show full menus.”
  6. When satisfied with the results, click on the “Close” button to back out of the dialog box and to accept your new setting.
